At Barium Springs Home for Children, we have seven group homes. Five homes are located in Barium Springs, NC. Two homes are located in North Wilkesboro, NC. Each home provides care for 4-9 children in a family-style setting. We have a capacity of 44 children and serve over 100 children annually. Staff, called Family-Teachers, are well-trained and committed to demonstrating healthy family behaviors and teaching important social skills. They implement the "Family-Teaching Model"-a proven tool for helping children improve behaviors and social skills.
A Teaching-Family Home:
Models a positive, family-style environment
Identifies and addresses concerns within the youth's family, with the goal of each youth returning home, if possible
Encourages young people to value themselves and their family
Assists youth in developing sound values, high principles, and good morals
Develops social, emotional, behavioral, academic, spiritual and self-help skills to each youth
Children living in our group homes often continue attending public school. Children attend church with the group home and they are encouraged to participate in youth group and community activities.
