It's pretty cool going to school at Barium Springs where there are only a few kids in my classroom. If I need help I can just raise my hand and the teacher is available to help me on the spot. We do lots of fun activities that make the day fly by and we are learning a lot. We like it here, but we hope that we will be able to go back to school with our friends next year.
Takima and Shaquille: age Age 11 and 13

Meet Takima and Shaquille.  They are siblings.  Takima and Shaquille attend our Day Treatment Program here on the Barium Springs campus.  They have been taken out of their regular school setting and placed into our Day Treatment Program because of the one-on-one attention they can receive.

Both children have been diagnosed with multiple behavior problems.  They were asked to leave the public school classroom because of daily violent outbursts and other disruptive behavior.  Takima and Shaquille were accepted into our program and it was soon discovered that because they were being punished and disciplined all the time, they had fallen severely behind in their academics.

Since beginning Day Treatment classes at Barium Springs, both children have made significant improvements in both behavior and academics.  While they are not ready to return to their public school classroom yet, they are making progress and hope to rejoin their friends for the next school year.
