Meet Jarred. He has learned to manage his anger.
I am glad that my mom sent me to live at Barium Springs, but I hated it at first. I miss all of my friends, but I know that if I can learn to deal with my feelings and act appropriately, then I can go back home. My mom and I meet with a therapist a lot, and talk about feelings and other stuff we've never talked about before.
Jarred: age 12
This is Jarred. At the tender age of twelve, Jarred's mother brought him to Barium Springs because she was unable to handle her son's outbursts and anger issues while still caring for Jarred's two younger siblings.
While Jarred is excelling in his school work, his social capabilities have caused some concern with his caregivers at Barium Springs Home for Children. Jarred often acts out in fits of rage, throwing books, cups and other objects at his family, teachers and peers. He often punishes himself by hitting his head against the wall. Jarred's use of aggressive and sometimes vulgar language in his conversations with his teachers is not acceptable behavior. He will live at Barium Springs until he learns to understand and control his violent outbursts. Jarred and his mother attend therapy sessions twice a week, talking about Jarred's feelings of jealousy toward his younger siblings and his feelings of resentment for his mother's time spent caring for them.
Jarred's main goal is reunification with his family. He wants to be able to return home with his family and to go to school with his friends.
