About the Program
At Barium Springs, our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) are home to children between 8-18 years old. One of our facilities, called King Home, serves children with severe emotional, behavioral and psychological problems who need a highly structured, therapeutic environment. Children often enter this facility suffering depression, anxiety, severe stress, aggression towards themselves or others, and oppositional defiant behavior. We also have an unlocked PRTF called Sullivan that specializes in the treatment of youth who have committed a sexual offense (TASK Program - Treatment Alternatives for Sexualized Kids). With an average stay of six months, the program is designed to help children step down to a less structured treatment as soon as possible such as outpatient counseling, group home placement or other non-secure community interventions. A medical model of care, all services are under the direction of a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist with nursing staff onsite 24 hours a day. Every child has an individualized treatment plan that includes daily therapy, medication management, and educational classes and recreational activities.
